Florida Manufactured Housing Association, Inc. is a membership-funded not-for-profit organization whose mission is to advance the interests of the manufactured housing industry as well as those who seek reliable information on the many benefits of buying a manufactured home. Since 1947, we have been one of the most influential voices in the manufactured housing industry, a forward-thinking association that has been instrumental in transforming both manufactured and modular homes into the best-built homes in America. We pursue our mission through legislative advocacy, consumer education, and facilitating a spirit of cooperation in all matters relevant to our 700-plus members. On this website, prospective home buyers will find a wealth of information on the subject of manufactured housing, as well as a conveniently searchable directory of home builders, communities, retailers, lenders, insurers, and other FMHA affiliates that can provide additional information and home-buying assistance.
Today’s manufactured homes are vastly superior to the factory built “mobile homes” of the past. The most important distinction is that all new manufactured homes for sale must conform to a stringent federal building code developed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The HUD Code establishes minimum standards for how manufactured housing is designed, constructed, and installed. As a result, manufactured home builders across the United States now produce high-quality, low-cost dwellings that are comparable to site-built structures – if not better. A second crucial difference relates to the growing popularity of manufactured home communities: master-planned developments where affordably priced manufactured homes sit in close proximity to private amenities that are jointly owned by each community’s residents. Though some manufactured home communities openly welcome families with children, others are limited to home buyers ages 55 and over who seek affordable housing along with lots of age-appropriate amenities, activities, and services.
